(Girls' Adventures in Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Summer
Camp)
Girls' Adventures in Mathematics, Engineering & Science is an
annual week long camp, designed to give academically talented middle
school aged girls an opportunity to explore exciting engineering and
scientific fields through demonstrations, classroom presentations,
hands-on activities, and contacts with women in these technical fields.
EnviroTech
EnviroTech is an after-school environmental science and technology
club being developed for at-risk elementary school students in the
Champaign, Illinois community. EnviroTech will use topics in environmental
science and technology to engage students and improve their literacy
skills, science knowledge, and general attitude towards science, all
of which are necessary for the students' future success in science
courses in middle and high school.

Lego League Robotics Competition
The FIRST organization has sponsored robotics competition for grade
school kids since 1998 (FIRST LEGO League, FLL). The program consists
not only of building and programming an autonomous robot, but also
provides judging for technical knowledge, teamwork, and a presentation
of a research project of how robots can be utilized in solving real-world
problems involving that year’s theme.
Challenge
Exams
The Academic Challenge is a competitive series of tests created and
administered by Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering and offered
to high school students in Illinois and Missouri. The tests are now
offered by more than 50 community colleges and universities and are
designed to present a challenge to the brightest students.
Illinois
ELITES
Illinois ELITES (Engaging Learners in Technology, Engineering and
Science) is a rigorous sixteen-week, 3-hour, Saturday academic enrichment
program for promising Chicago high school freshmen and sophomores
who are interested in improving their math skills in order to pursue
careers in science, engineering and technology. This program, held
in Chicago, stresses the importance of mastering math skills in order
to succeed in college- level studies in technology and engineering.
This program is a collaboration between the Women in Engineering Program
and the College of Engineering Chicago Office of Public Engagement.
