William R. Schowalter Award

During his 12 years as dean of the College of Engineering, William R. Schowalter demonstrated outstanding character, creativity, and enthusiasm. Above all, his dedication to the students and faculty of the college was always evident in his conduct. In his honor, on behalf of Engineering Council, the William R. Schowalter Award was established upon his retirement in February 2001. Recipients of this award are chosen based on their leadership skills, creativity, encouragement of others through activities, and dedication to the College of Engineering.

Solicitation
October
The Engineering Awards Committee Chair distributes application forms to the departments. The engineering societies are made aware of applications online, and in the Engineering Council office through Engineering Council general meetings and weekly emails.

November 15
Nominations must be submitted to the Engineering Council Awards Chair, 103C Engineering Hall, MC-272.


Selection
December
A committee comprised of the Engineering Council president, Engineering Council awards chair, two society representatives, the Engineering Council Graduate Advisor, a previous Schowalter recipient, and a representative from among the deans of the College of Engineering will select the award recipient.

Logistics
February/March
The editor in the Engineering Communications Office prepares the college awards convocation booklet, which will carry a photo and biosketch of the recipient. Award is presented at the awards convocation in April. Recipient and family are invited to the awards luncheon by the associate dean for academic programs.
