The
Hiroshima Institute of Technology (HIT) is a fully accredited
private technical university. It=s High-Tech Research Center and
Academic Frontier Research Center for Ultra-High Speed Deformation
make HIT one of the most regarded technology institutes among
Japanese universities. It was founded in 1963 and comprises two
facilities; the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Environmental
Studies.
The
city of Hiroshima, meaning AWide Island and nicknamed the City
of Water, is located on the western end of Japan's biggest island
(Honshu) and developed on the delta of the Ota River. Formed from
the rich, fertile soil carried by the Ota River, the delta contains
six rivers flowing through the heart of the city and into the
Seto Inland Sea, part of the huge Seto Inland Sea national park.
The six rivers are connected by main bridges that play an integral
part in the life of the people of the city. In August of 1945,
Hiroshima was devastated by the first nuclear bomb. Hiroshima
is now a thriving metropolis of over 1 million people, the largest
city in the western district.
It
is also located near Miyajima, said to be one of the most beautiful
places in Japan. Miyajima is a beautiful and harmonious island
surrounded by the sea and abundant nature. Itsukushima Shrine
built in an elegant style dating from the Heian Era is located
here. Here you will find one of the most prominent aquariums in
Japan. In December 1996, Itsukushima Shrine was designated a World
Cultural Heritage. |
