Warren W. Yee Program

Warren W. Yee
Professional Development Program for Engineering Faculty
to visit the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA

This program is made possible by the generous support of the family of Warren W. Yee.

Engineering faculty from the Peoples Republic of China are invited to apply for the Warren W. Yee Professional Development Program.  The purpose of the program is to foster individual personal development and intercultural understanding and cooperation with colleagues in the USA.  Successful applicants will:

  • spend an academic year (September through May) at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (UIUC)

  • receive round trip airfare, financial support for some living expenses , and financial support to attend conferences and/or visit other institutions in the USA

  • be designated a "Yee Scholar" and have visiting professor status and privileges

The program is open to faculty of all engineering disciplines and geographic locations in the PRC.  Ideal candidates will be early- to mid-career engineering professors who are leaders in their field.  The program would work well for faculty taking a sabbatical leave and who have a disciplinary/research connection with one or more faculty at UIUC.  Development opportunities will include

Enhancement of teaching skills :  Yee Scholars may use the UIUC Center for Teaching Excellence and the College of Engineering Academy for Excellence in Engineering Education to learn new teaching methods and to enhance instructional skills.

Enhancement of technical and research capabilities :  Yee Scholars are invited to affiliate with one of the many engineering faculty research laboratories/programs.  UIUC is one of the largest and most highly ranked engineering research universities, with over 400 engineering faculty addressing a wide range of topics.

Enhancement of professional networks : Yee Scholars will interact with the campus community in both professional and extracurricular ways, enhancing the cultural understanding of visitors and residents alike.  Activities with students will be coordinated by the International Programs in Engineering Office.

Applications will be received through March 30 for the 2004-05 academic year.
