Prochain Arret…

Geneve!

Hi Everyone!  Welcome to my Switzerland Website.  Here you will learn about my study abroad experience in Geneva, Switzerland during the Spring 2004 semester through the Geneva Program at Kent State University.  Feel free to browse through and e-mail me if you have any questions or comments!

Picturesque Geneve

My program centered around International Relations.  I took mostly political science classes (Problems of International Organizations, Human Rights) and NO engineering classes.  It was a great program to broaden my horizons.  I definitely recommend this program to anyone looking to get into the international scene.

Classes

Dr. Reed’s classes were great!  There was a lot of reading, but it was all interesting and worth it.  I learned so much from his classes.  I also recommend taking French, especially if you haven’t had any before.  It’s not necessary to speak French, but I felt that taking elementary French in Geneva was great and I picked up a lot of French while I was there.  But these classes are no where near as hard as engineering classes at home.  So take a break from all that stress and still learn a lot!!

A Typical Week

Monday  through Thursday we had class at the Knox.  We had to make our own lunches, but dinner was provided.  Some people also had night classes.  Usually we would go out to the bars atleast 1 night during the week.  Starting on Thursday night, we were free for the weekend.  Since we all had Eurorail passes, this usually meant that we would catch a night train somewhere (Rome, Barcelona, Prage, etc…)  It was a great way to travel!!  Most of us would get back Sunday night and start the week all over again.  It’s nice to take the train because you can get all your homework done!  Just look at all the places I was able to travel to on the weekends!

Final Thoughts

This was the best semester! I backpacked through Europe and met some great friends from all over the country along the way!  I would definitely recommend it to anyone!  It broadened my horizons.  Before the program, I had no clue about what was going on in the international scene.  But now, I can talk to people about international politics and actually sound intelligent!  If you have any doubts, e-mail me and I will convince you this is the program for you!!
