The Summer Program to Darmstadt, Germany was a 5-7 week trip: five weeks of course work
followed by an optional two-week internship. Students were tested the first day of class and then placed into
one of four classes according to their knowledge of German. Two language sessions met every morning from
9:00 to 10:30 & from 11:00 to 12:30. The culture credit came from seminars students attended in the afternoons.
Students selected seminars they would like to attend as some were in English and others in German. Organized
excursions occupied many weekends as well as some afternoons. Although there were other options, most
students stayed with a host family. I had a great host family. They were very nice and spoke English fluently.
The IPENG office allowed us to choose the date and city we wished to depart from allowing for extended travel.
I left Germany after completing my course work and spent a few weeks traveling through England & Scotland.
Below are photos from the Darmstadt trip taken by me and other U of I students.
