If you have enjoyed living in dorms at the University of Illinois, be ready for a big change when you come to Nancy.  The dorm complex we stayed in consisted of three buildings, and at first our group was separated between the first and third buildings.   However, in mid-June we discovered that the third building was closing for the summer and all of the students living in the third building got to move to the first building.  Each room in the complex is a single; yes that's right, everybody gets their own room.  Each room in the first building had a bed, a desk, a lamp, a closet, a refrigerator and a sink (the third building's rooms were the same minus the refrigerator).  Of course, you must remember that this is Europe, so there is no air conditioning in any of the buildings.

Dorm Building

Most residents keep the windows open to help circulate air in the rooms

Building

Note how most of the shutters are closed here: kind of gives it that "ready for war" look

Laundry

Each building has only one washer and dryer, so the majority of us used the laundromat along the tram line

Building 1 - Room

The desk, lamp, and refrigerator (the black box underneath the desk in the corner)

Building 1 - Sink

The shelves next to the sink are handy for storing toiletries including toilet paper, since there is none in the bathrooms.

Showers

The majority of the showers are push-button operated and only stay on for about 15-20 seconds at a time.

Building 3 - Room

All of the windows are covered by metal shutters. They really don't help to keep the heat out, but they sure do work well to keep the light out.

Building 3 - Sink

The water is safe to drink from the tap in France which helps on those hot summer days.

Building 3 - Bed

Note the cylindrical pillow: it takes a while to adjust to so you might consider bringing a normal pillow from home.
