The exchange with the Université de Liège is available for a semester, academic year, or for intensive French classes in the summer. I participated in the exchange for the 2000-2001 academic year. Follow the links above to learn more. If you have any questions about Liege, feel free to contact me!

Here is a map of Belgium in Europe, and a map of Liege in Belgium:

Belgium is a small but interesting country. It has three official languages; in the southern region, Wallonia, French is the official language; in the northern region, Flanders, Flemish is spoken; and in some cities in the east the official language is German. Belgium also has three regions; Flanders (Flemish), Wallonia (French) and Brussels (the bilingual capital). Flanders and Wallonia are further divided into provinces. If you are driving or taking the train across the language border, you must know the names of the cities in both languages! They are not always obvious matches. (Liege (Fr) = Luik (Fl) = Luttich (Ge), Courtrai (Fr) = Kortrijk (Fl)). Most young people and people working in the tourism industry speak some English. Liege, with 200,000 citizens, is the largest cities in Wallonia, and also the capital of the province of Liege.

Liege used to be a very important city in Europe. It is commemorated with a metro stop in Paris! The Liege metro stop is one of the prettiest inside since it is covered in pictures of the province of Liege instead of advertisements. Below is an example, the Colonster Chateau, which today is a banquet/conference center for the university.
