Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan

Kanazawa is on the west coast of Japan and is visited by many foreigners and even people of Japan.  When you ask people from Japan what Kanazawa is known for, they immediately tell you about Kenrokuen and Kanazawa castle which is also well known throughout Japan.  They also tell you that the fish is fresh and the people are friendly.

Kanazawa has a long history and until about 150 years ago was the 4th largest city in Japan.  Because of this and the fact that it was one of the few large cities not bombed during World War 2, there are many things to see here that are from way back.
Major things to see at Kanazawa include: Kenrokuen, Kanazawa Castle, Nagamachi district, Teramachi district, and Omicho market.  Plenty of information about these places can be found just by searching online.

Just a quick fact, Kenrokuen is said by many to be the best garden in Japan.

It takes approximately an hour by plane to get to Tokyo, or 4 hours by train.
