Depending on your main goal in coming to Kanazawa; to learn in the classes, to meet and interact with japanese people; to see as much of what japan is as possible, your budget will vary greatly. A Japan Rail Pass is expensive but can help with cut back the cost if you dream of seeing as the sites of japan during your stay. If learning is your main goal, your greatest expense would simply cover food and the first train trip, which is not much at all. Lastly if you plan to interact a lot with japanese people/students your entertainment and food costs might also increase a bit. It's really up to you. This is an approximation of my budget and what I heard from others.
