| The study abroad program offered by the
Engineering department at University of Illinois at Urbana and Champaign
is a six weeks program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
Tsinghua University was build in 1911, with it's motto of: Self discipline and social commitment. It is a comprehensive university consisting of five colleges (Engineering, Sciences, Architecture, Liberal Arts, and Economics and Management). It has an enrollment of about 28,000 students. It is one of the top universities in China, and has been called the "MIT" of China. The campus occupies 649 acres with over 850,000 square meters of floor spaces, and it is known for its limpid pools and verdant trees which originated the word "Tsinghua" (clear and abundant). The program consists of classes learning Chinese, Chinese cultures (like Chinese history, economics, technology, arts, etc.), Chinese calligraphy, and Taichi (a form of Chinese martial arts). On the weekends, students will also be taken to go see historical sites like Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace, etc, a weekend trip to the city of Datong, and also go visit Wutai Mountain. For living quaters, we students will be assigned to a room that includes a bathroom and air-condition. Meals will also be provided by Tsinghua. Each student will be given a daily stipend for meals by Tsinghua University. The money they give is plentiful because food in China is very cheap. It is definitely the best trip ever! The 19 of us all had a blast! Don't miss a life time's opportunity! |
