Program Budget:

The overall fee for the Tsinghua trip is a really good price. We paid roughly 3000 dollars for this trip. Although this may sound a lot, we got 6 hours of humanities credit and satisfied our Non-western requirement also. It costs almost the same amount to take summer courses at home and that doesn't even include housing and you don't get to visit awesome places such as the Great Wall and you don't get to see the excitement that China has to offer. If you travel alone to China, you would have to pay $1000 just for the travel and then you will have to spend extra money for other stuff, but if you study abroad through IPENG, IPENG will pay for your airfare. Studying abroad is a really good deal.

Payable at UIUC:
- Non-Refundable Processing Fee $225
- Program Fee $1500*
- UIUC Range IV Tuition/General Fee $695
- Roundtrip Airfare $1500**
Payable in U.S. or Country going to:
- Passport and Visa (if required) $100
- Personal Expenses (food, school supplies, personal expenses, etc.) $1500

* There is a deposit of 250 dollars. After you pay the deposit, you only have to pay 1250 dollars for the Program Fee.
The program fee also provides 40 yuan for food each day which is roughly five US dollars. The food in the cafeteria is really inexpensive and you can get a really good meal for one dollar.

** If you get the International Fellowship, which most people usually do get, then IPENG will pay for your roundtrip airfare which is a really good deal. All you have to do is a project at the end which can be a video, webpage, or paper and then put in four hours for IPENG to promote and support studying abroad.

You can buy toiletries over there at Tsinghua University. There are several supermarkets on campus where you can buy whatever you need. Personal Expenses includes clothes, gifts, and souvenirs as well as the expenses that you are going to pay if you decide to go anywhere during the remaining two weeks after the six week program.

Tsinghua University will give you ~5 dollars or 40 yuan for food each day. You can usually get a really good meal for 10 yuan in the cafeteria and breakfast is usually around 5 yuan. If you go out to a restaurant, you usually would pay 20 to 30 yuan. You also don't even need to tip or pay tax in China. Almost everything is incredibly cheap. Just be careful though because those small expenses do add up.

The most expenses probably went towards the extra two weeks that most of us went on. Trips to Xian or Three Gorges cost around 1500 yuan each (train tickets and hotels and entrance fees).
