ABOUT REGISTERING WITH ECS

How do I register with ECS?
There are two steps to registering to use ECS services for 2007-08.

  1. Complete the on-line registration form at www.uiucengineeringjobs.com;
  2. Visit the ECS office in Suite 3270 DCL to sign a Registration Agreement and the Rights and Policies statement. A one-time $40 Technology and Resource fee is also required for all new registrations and for students who have not registered to use ECS services in the past or completed the degree program for which they previously registered. (Fee may be applied directly to your UIUC student account).

Who is eligible to register with ECS?
All undergraduate and graduate students (including Post Docs) in the College of Engineering, as well as students enrolled in Agricultural Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Math/Computer Science, or the MBA Program (with engineering background) are eligible to register to use all ECS services and to participate in on-campus interviewing.

What is the cost to register?
There is a basic, one-time Technology and Resource fee of $40 per degree (Bachelors, Masters, or PhD) to receive access to all ECS programs and services. This fee will be applied directly to your student account.

INTERVIEWING

Where are the interviews located?
Interviews are held in the College's 39-room Corporate Interview Suite located on the 3rd floor of DCL. Interviewees must check-in with the Engineering Career Services Office 10 minutes prior to your scheduled interviews in Suite 3260 DCL, located directly across the hall from the Interview Suite. After check-in, you will be directed to the waiting area where you will wait to be called by the recruiter.

How do I cancel an interview?
If you need to cancel an interview, you must do so within the guidelines of the registration agreement which you signed at registration. This policy states that you will cancel at least four (4) days in advance by contacting ECS directly or by removing your name from the interview schedule on the online job board. In an emergency situation, you must notify ECS as soon as possible. Your situation will then be reviewed and documentation may be requested. Missing a scheduled interview without canceling or providing ECS notification will automatically disqualify you from all services provided by ECS for three months from the date of the missed interview.

RÉSUMÉS, COVER LETTERS & TRANSCRIPTS

Can ECS review my résumé?
Engineering Career Services professionals are available to meet with students to review résumés and cover letters, discuss job search strategies, provide offer assessment and negotiation coaching, or for other career-related advising. To schedule an appointment, please call ECS at 333-1960. Additionally, the Campus Career Center, located on Wright Street across from Altgeld Hall, also provides these services to College of Engineering students and hosts walk-in hours.

What is a cover letter and when do I use it?
Cover letters are used to present your qualifications for a specific position and with a specific company when you are not able to present them in person. General cover letters, meaning those written "To Whom It May Concern," or that are not specific to a company or a position, are generally ineffective. Each cover letter should be tailored to tell what qualifications you have specific to the requirements of the position and why you are specifically interested in the company to whom you are applying.

Where can I get a copy of my transcript?
Transcripts are available from the Office of Admissions and Records located near Lincoln and Illinois streets. Additionally, you can order copies online.
