Engineering Administration

Ilesanmi Adesida
Dean

In June 2005, Ilesanmi Adesida became the 13th dean since the inception of the College of Engineering in 1870. He originally joined the Illinois faculty in 1988, and he is currently the Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and Director of the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology. He has previously served as the Director of the Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory and the Associate Director for education of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Compound Semiconductor Microelectronics.

He received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1979-84, he worked in various capacities at what is now known as the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility and the School of Electrical Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He was the head of the Electrical Engineering Department at Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria, from 1985-87.

Michael B. Bragg
Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

As Executive Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs, Michael B. Bragg oversees all faculty issues in the college, including hiring and retention, promotion and tenure, awards, and is responsible for resource planning in the college, and supports the Dean in the college’s strategic planning and global initiatives.

An Illinois alumnus, he earned his BS and MS degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his PhD in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Ohio State University where he initially served as an assistant, and later, associate professor in the department. In 1990, he returned to his alma mater as a faculty member and later head of the Department of Aerospace engineering.

Bruce A. Vojak
Associate Dean for Administration

As Associate Dean for Administration, Bruce A. Vojak is responsible for the key support service functions in the college, including human resources, budget planning, facilities, information services, communications and public relations, and safety.

Prior to joining the university in 1999 he was Director of Advanced Technology for one of Motorola’s business units. Previously, he held various technical and business management positions at Amoco Corporation, including a business development manager role involving acquisitions, divestments, and strategic planning. At the beginning of his career he was a staff research engineer at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he currently teaches and conducts research in strategic technology management. He holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Edgar J. Martinez
Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs

The Office of Engineering Interdisciplinary Programs facilitates large interdisciplinary research programs in the college and is responsible for the development of government, industrial, and foundation relationships.

Edgar Martinez joined the College of Engineering as the Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs in 2007 after serving as the Assistant Dean for Research and Entrepreneurship at Purdue University. He has also contributed to Purdue University as the Chief Operating Officer for their Nanotechnology Centers. He obtained his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, after also completing his MS and BS in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton and the University of Puerto Rico respectively.

Charles Tucker
Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs

The Office of Engineering Undergraduate Programs oversees all undergraduate education programs and services in the college, including recruiting, advising, career services, diversity programs for undergraduate students, scholarships, international experiences, accreditation, undergraduate research, and other issues affecting undergraduate students.

Tucker earned his SB, SM, and PhD in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the department as an assistant professor in 1978, and was named a full professor in 1989. Since 2003, he has also served as Associate Head for Undergraduate Programs with the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering.

Victoria L. Coverstone
Associate Dean for Graduate and
Professional Education

The Office of Engineering Graduate and Professional Programs oversees graduate education programs in the college, including online courses and extramural programs, diversity programs for graduate students, professional degree programs, and other issues affecting graduate students.

An Illinois alumna, Victoria Coverstone earned her BS, MS, and PhD degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering. She joined the Department of Aerospace Engineering faculty in 1992, where she is currently a professor and associate department head. She is also the director of the Computational Astrodynamic Research Lab at Illinois. Her research activities are dynamics, control, and design of aerospace systems. Specific applications are the control of spacecraft and the design of optimal spacecraft trajectories. She has established a close working relationship with NASA researchers and continues to work on space mission planning software.

Molly M. Tracy
Associate Dean for Advancement

The Office of Engineering Advancement supports the college mission by facilitating individual and corporate gifts and advancing alumni relations. Molly Tracy was named Associate Dean for Advancement in July 2008. Since 2006, she has served as associate director of the Information Trust Institute at Illinois, where she is responsible for overseeing the center's day-to-day operations, managing stakeholder relationships, and the acquisition of resources for the research and education programs. Before joining ITI, Tracy was associate dean of administration and technology for the College of Education.
