Mission Statement

Part of the mission of the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is to provide educational programs on a continuing basis to practicing engineers, especially those in Illinois. In pursuit of this mission, the Office of Continuing Engineering Education (OCEE) offers both credit and noncredit courses utilizing the outstanding faculty and facilities of the college.

Credit Programs

The College of Engineering offers off-campus master's degree programs for qualified engineers who are interested in obtaining a graduate degree from UIUC.

Statewide Master's Degree Programs
Courses leading to master of science degrees in several disciplines are offered at public sites throughout Illinois. Public sites may be established wherever there is sufficient interest.

Contract Programs
Public or private entities may "contract" with the university to deliver an entire master's degree program in any engineering discipline to a specific group of employees over a specific time period. Alternatively, an entity may contract for a sequence of courses leading to a certificate in a specific area of concentration.

Professional Development Credit Course Programs
Individuals may also enroll in the off-campus engineering courses on a credit or noncredit basis. Courses taken for professional development purposes (audit) may not be applied toward a UIUC degree.

Noncredit Programs

OCEE offers noncredit programs ranging from one-day seminars to week-long or even semester-long courses. These courses may be offered on campus, at remote sites, public sites, or at company sites. Typically, the presentations are live; however, some seminars may be videotaped and some may be offered over the satellite network or through the visual teleconferencing system. These courses (topic, location, dates, etc.) are developed in response to industry/government requests.

Distance Learning Resources and Facilities

OCEE's educational programs can be delivered in a variety of ways: videotaped cassettes, video teleconferencing technology, satellite uplink, and face-to-face instruction.
